The system captures oil vapour and moisture that would otherwise return to the intake system, helping to keep the intercooler, intake hoses and intake manifold clean over the long term.<\/p>\n<p>In modern direct-injection engines such as the EA839, fuel no longer washes the back of the intake valves. Oil vapour travelling through the engine ventilation system (PCV) therefore gradually coats the intake system with sticky deposits. This can reduce airflow and affect engine performance. A high-quality oil catch can is an effective preventative upgrade.<\/p>\n<h4>System operation<\/h4>\n<p>This is a complete replacement for the PCV system, not merely an additional canister. The factory plastic PCV assembly, which contains a check valve known to fail, is removed and replaced with a billet aluminium breather plate and a CNC-machined oil filler cap.
