Forge Motorsport introduced the upgraded intercooler for the BMW Mini Cooper S in 2005. Following an extensive development programme and thorough testing in various environments, an air-to-air intercooler was selected for this application.<\/p>\n
The development included testing different intercooler cores and end tank designs. During the initial stages, the development of an air-to-air intercooler and a water-cooled charge air heat exchanger system (charge cooler) ran in parallel. The air-to-air design achieved a considerably greater reduction in temperatures, so development focused on it.<\/p>\n
At every stage of development, testing was carried out with the vehicle at different levels of modification \u2013 with and without performance software, with smaller supercharger pulleys, with bonnet air scoops and with improved intake systems.<\/p>\n
The intercooler provides temperatures up to 29% lower than the original equipment, making it suitable for the Mini Cooper S 1.6 with the W11 supercharged engine.<\/p>\n
