Wheel spacers: a wider track and more stability

Wheel spacers are plates fitted between the hub and the wheel that move the wheel outwards. The result is a wider track, which reduces body roll in corners and brings noticeably more stability at higher speeds. At the same time the wheel fills the wheel arch better, which makes spacers one of the most affordable visual upgrades.

Forged aluminium alloy spacers are light and strong, so they put no unnecessary load on the bearings and suspension. They come in thin versions of a few millimetres that are fitted with the stock bolts, and in thicker versions with their own flange and studs.

Before you buy, check three things: the bolt pattern (for example 5x112), the centre bore diameter of the hub and the length of the studs. Most products come with a certificate (TÜV or ABE), which is required for the roadworthiness test and road use.
