CTS Turbo FMIC kit for VW Golf V GTI/Jetta III GLI

The CTS MK5 2.0T Direct Fit FMIC is designed as a direct replacement for the original front-mount intercooler (FMIC). It can be installed without trimming or modifying the bumper. The original FMIC is suitable for standard boost levels, but at increased boost pressure caused by an ECU upgrade or remap, it can struggle to maintain the correct charge-air temperature. Higher charge-air temperatures can cause boost cut and ignition retardation, reducing engine power.

CTS’s direct-fit FMIC uses an efficient bar-and-plate core that helps reduce pressure drop. A lower pressure drop means the turbocharger has to work less hard to achieve the same boost pressure. If the turbocharger creates 30 psi of boost pressure in its housing, while the intercooler causes a pressure drop of 10 psi, the boost pressure measured by the ECU will be (30 psi – 10 psi) = 20 psi. With an efficient CTS FMIC, the turbocharger does not need to work as hard to achieve the desired boost pressure. This provides two benefits: more efficient operation extends the turbocharger’s service life, while the charge air after the turbocharger is cooler and denser, allowing more power at the driven wheels.
