The CTS Turbo front-mounted intercooler (FMIC) kit for the Audi TT/TTS II is designed as a direct replacement for the original front-mounted intercooler. The kit can be installed without shortening or modifying the bumper.
The original intercooler is sufficient at factory boost pressure levels, but when pressure is increased through an ECU upgrade or remap, it has more difficulty managing intake air temperature. Higher intake air temperatures can cause boost pressure cut and ignition timing retard, reducing the vehicle’s power.
CTS Turbo uses a high-efficiency bar-and-plate intercooler core construction that helps reduce pressure drop. A lower pressure drop means that the turbo does not need to work as hard to achieve a given boost pressure level. If the turbo creates 30 psi of boost pressure in the compressor, while the intercooler causes a pressure drop of 10 psi, the pressure measured by the ECU will be (30 psi – 10 psi) = 20 psi.
With an efficient CTS Turbo intercooler, the turbo works under less load to achieve the desired boost pressure. This helps extend the turbocharger’s service life through more efficient operation, while the air after the turbocharger is cooler and denser, allowing more power at the wheels.
