CTS Turbo intercooler for Volkswagen Eos I (1F)

The CTS MK5 2.0T Direct Fit FMIC is designed as a direct replacement for the original front-mount intercooler (FMIC). Installation is possible without cutting or modifying the bumper.

The original FMIC is sufficient at standard boost pressures, but after increasing boost pressure through an ECU upgrade or remapping, it has more difficulty managing charge-air temperature effectively. Higher charge-air temperatures can cause boost cut and a reduction in ignition advance, reducing vehicle power.

CTS’s direct-fit FMIC uses a high-efficiency bar-and-plate core that helps reduce pressure drop. A lower pressure drop means that the turbo does not need to work as hard to achieve a given boost pressure. If the turbo produces 30 psi of boost pressure in the compressor section and the intercooler causes a pressure drop of 10 psi, the pressure measured by the ECU will be 20 psi (30 psi – 10 psi).

With an efficient CTS FMIC, the turbo does not need to work as hard to achieve the desired boost pressure. This provides two benefits: more efficient operation extends the turbocharger’s service life, while the charge air at the turbocharger outlet is cooler and denser, transferring more power to the driven wheels.
