CTS Turbo intercooler for VW 1.8T/2.0T Gen3

The CTS MK6 2.0T Direct Fit FMIC kit is designed as a direct replacement for the factory front intercooler (FMIC). It can be fitted without cutting or modifying the bumper. The factory FMIC is sufficient at standard boost pressures, but after increasing boost pressure with an ECU upgrade or remap, it struggles to maintain a suitable charge-air temperature. Higher charge-air temperatures can cause boost cut and reduced ignition timing, both of which reduce vehicle power.

CTS’s direct-fit FMIC uses an efficient bar-and-plate core design that helps reduce pressure drop. A lower pressure drop means the turbocharger does not have to work as hard to achieve a given boost pressure. If the turbocharger creates 30 psi of boost pressure and the intercooler causes a pressure drop of 10 psi, the pressure measured by the ECU will be (30 psi – 10 psi) = 20 psi. With the efficient CTS FMIC, the turbocharger does not need to work as hard to achieve the desired boost pressure. This provides two benefits: more efficient operation extends the turbocharger’s service life, while the charge air at the turbocharger outlet is cooler and denser, allowing more power at the driven wheels.
