CTS Turbo intercooler for VW Golf VI R 2.0T

The CTS Turbo Direct Fit FMIC kit is designed as a direct replacement for the original front-mount intercooler (FMIC) on the VW Golf R 2.0T. Installation is possible without shortening or modifying the bumper. The original intercooler is sufficient at standard boost pressure, but at increased pressure resulting from ECU tuning or remapping, it has more difficulty keeping charge-air temperatures under control. Higher charge-air temperatures can cause boost pressure cut-off and reduced ignition advance, which decreases engine power.

CTS’s direct-fit intercooler uses a high-efficiency bar-and-plate core that helps reduce pressure drop. A lower pressure drop means the turbocharger is subjected to less stress when achieving a specific boost pressure. If the turbocharger produces 30 psi of boost pressure and the intercooler causes a pressure drop of 10 psi, the boost pressure measured by the ECU will be 20 psi. With an efficient CTS intercooler, the turbocharger can reach the desired boost pressure more easily. This results in more efficient operation and can extend the turbocharger’s service life, while the air after the turbocharger is cooler and denser, allowing more power at the wheels.
