The CTS Turbo hybrid turbocharger with a stainless steel housing is specifically designed for vehicles with the MQB platform.
It is a direct replacement or upgrade for existing IS12, IS20 or IS38 turbochargers. The turbocharger is designed as a direct-fit solution with fast response, strong mid-range torque and reliable operation.
The turbocharger is based on the journal bearing CHRA from the popular IS38 turbocharger, adapted for larger turbine and compressor wheels. The thrust bearings and thrust bearing spacers have been increased by 2 mm to withstand additional loads. The oil passages have been enlarged by 0.72 mm, enabling a more efficient hydrodynamic oil wedge during turbocharger operation. The product has been extensively tested on vehicles at different altitudes and in different climates.
The turbocharger can achieve approximately 600 hp at the crankshaft, approximately 520–530 whp with E85 fuel or 430–460 whp with 93-octane petrol. It is primarily intended for road use, combining fast boost build-up with good mid-range performance.
The recommended boost pressure is 25–28 psi, or less if the fuel system or factory engine is the limiting factor. Do not exceed the recommended range, as this reduces turbocharger efficiency.
