Both bulbs have a built-in CANbus decoder which, according to the manufacturer, is intended to prevent bulb-failure errors on the instrument panel. The housing is made of aluminium, which the manufacturer says also acts as a heat sink.

Typical uses of the PY21W socket: indicators, hazard warning lights. Before buying, check the socket type in the vehicle manual or on the bulb currently fitted and choose a product with the same designation.

Important: LED replacements for signal bulbs (W5W, P21W …) carry no ECE approval. They are fine for interior lighting; they are not permitted in exterior lamps of road vehicles.
