Both bulbs have a built-in CANbus decoder which, according to the manufacturer, is intended to prevent bulb-failure errors on the instrument panel. The housing is made of aluminium, which the manufacturer says also acts as a heat sink.
Typical uses of the W5W socket: side (position) lights, number plate light, interior lighting, glove box lighting, boot lighting, instrument lighting. Before buying, check the socket type in the vehicle manual or on the bulb currently fitted and choose a product with the same designation.
Important: LED replacements for signal bulbs (W5W, P21W …) carry no ECE approval. They are fine for interior lighting; they are not permitted in exterior lamps of road vehicles.
