We recommend servicing the valve every 3 years or 20,000 miles – whichever comes first.
This atmospheric valve (blow-off or dump valve) is designed for BMW N13 1.6 Turbo engines with an electronically controlled diverter valve. It is recommended for vehicles with increased boost pressure due to an ECU software upgrade, as well as unmodified vehicles operating in warmer climates. It resolves common failures of the original valve, where the rubber diaphragm splits and causes a loss of boost pressure.
A failure does not always trigger the engine warning light, as the boost pressure may still be sufficient to open the valve. Therefore, you may not notice a loss of power.
The valve has a piston design without a diaphragm that could fail and is made entirely from aluminium. It replaces the original part with a pressure- or vacuum-controlled piston valve, while retaining the desired factory opening control via the ECU. The internal spring can be replaced with a stronger or weaker version depending on the engine’s boost pressure.
