We recommend servicing the valve every 3 years or 20,000 miles, whichever comes first.

FMDVMCS is a sandwich-style adaptor that fits between the existing electric solenoid and the turbocharger housing on 2007/08 BMW Mini Cooper S N14 engines (R56/R57), as well as on 1.6 turbo engines in the Peugeot 207 GTI, 208 GTI, 307 and 308, and the Citroën DS3.

The turbocharger housing contains a bypass system that allows charge air to be returned from the outlet side to the intake side of the turbocharger. Flow is controlled by an electric solenoid connected to the engine electronics. When you lift off the accelerator during a gear change, the throttle closes, but the turbocharger is still spinning and generating boost pressure. If the air has nowhere to go, the turbocharger slows down and boost pressure drops, causing delay or lag when accelerating again.

The bypass or diverter valve prevents this by providing the charge air with an alternative route and allowing the turbocharger to remain within its rev range. Instead of redirecting the air back into the intake system, the FMDVMCS adaptor vents it to the atmosphere. This prevents hot air from returning to the intake side of the turbocharger while maintaining its rotational speed. The side effect is the characteristic sound of air being released.

The adaptor fits between the existing solenoid and the turbocharger housing. Only 3 bolts need to be removed for installation. Please note that the engine electronics also use this valve to reduce power, for example when the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system is operating. With the blow-off adaptor installed, air being released may therefore also be heard when DSC is activated.

The kit includes:

  • 1 × FMDVMCS adaptor
  • 3 × hex socket bolt
  • 1 × instructions
  • 1 × Forge sticker

The product is available only in a machined aluminium finish.
