The Forge blow-off valve is a direct replacement for the original valve and is designed as a more durable, performance-focused version. The original valve is suitable for a certain period at factory boost pressure, but at increased boost pressure and with prolonged use it no longer provides sufficient performance.

Increasing the boost pressure affects the original valve in several ways. The additional pressure can quickly exceed the capacity of the original spring to keep the valve closed at higher pressures. As the spring in the original valve cannot be replaced, it cannot be adapted to higher boost pressures. In addition, the higher temperature caused by increased boost pressure accelerates wear of the original valve’s rubber diaphragm, which loses its strength due to repeated fluctuations.

The Forge valve is made from billet aluminium and uses Viton silicone O-rings designed for high boost pressures and repeated loads. With the included spring kit, it can be adjusted for different boost pressures. The valve is fully rebuildable, and replacement O-rings are also available.

The Genesis Coupe 2.0T engine does not have a MAF sensor (mass airflow sensor), so the remaining boost pressure can be vented to the atmosphere when the throttle plate lifts, as with this valve. The engine control unit does not measure the amount of air entering the engine, so venting the remaining pressure does not negatively affect the vehicle’s operation or driving characteristics.

The valve may be open at idle or under vacuum, which is normal and does not mean that it is leaking. If there is vacuum in the intake manifold, the valve may also be open when driving at a constant speed. The original valve operates in the same way, but this cannot be seen or heard because it recirculates the air into the intake system instead of venting it to the atmosphere. Using a stiffer spring to keep the valve closed under vacuum can cause excessive spring tension and therefore poorer pressure relief when the throttle plate lifts.
