The product is a direct replacement for the original parts with part numbers 13718601678, 13718605164 and 13718601682.

Intake system development

The intake system was developed for BMW B58 engines to improve airflow to the engine. The larger filter surface and optimised intake chamber shape allow more efficient air delivery compared with the original solution.

The carbon construction combines low weight, high rigidity and low thermal conductivity. This helps reduce heat transfer to the intake system and maintain a lower intake air temperature. Cooler air is denser, allowing the engine to receive more oxygen for combustion.

SolidWorks CAD modelling, 3D-printed prototypes, flow simulations and dynamometer testing were used during development. According to the manufacturer, the improvements were measured from 2,500 rpm to the rev limiter, with a maximum increase of approximately 11 hp and 19 Nm of torque.

Material and construction

The intake section is made from prepreg 2×2 twill carbon fibre, formed in an autoclave using solid-material tooling. The surface is finished with a gloss UV-protective gel coat. The carbon pattern is matched to the appearance of the original carbon intake manifold.

To fit the complete intake kit, the FMINLH25 intake hose is also required in addition to this product. It replaces the original hose with an acoustic resonator and ribbed internal shape, which can cause turbulence. The hose diameter increases from 85 mm to 90 mm.

Before purchasing, check the shape of the original upper airbox. If the airbox has a channel for the strut brace to pass through, this intake system is not compatible with the vehicle.
