HF-Series intercooler – auxiliary water cooler for Mercedes A45 AMG W176

This intercooler for the Mercedes A45 AMG is a highlight of the HF-Series range. The HF-Series water cooler is integrated into the system as a third cooler, in addition to the two original coolers in the intercooler system of your Mercedes A45 AMG. This means that the water, which has already been temperature-reduced, is cooled down even further because the auxiliary cooler sits directly in the airflow while driving. It is designed so that the water turns through 180 °C inside the cooler and passes through its entire length twice.

If you order this cooler with a black powder-coated finish, the upgrade is almost invisible.

The benefits of this product are:

This makes the product interesting for both standard power and motorsport use, as considerably higher power outputs are also possible. Every cooler was built for the respective vehicle, calculated using flow simulations and tested on an in-house dynamometer.

What exactly does an upgraded intercooler provide?

To express the exact power increase provided by an intercooler in figures, many unknown factors must be taken into account, such as factory power variation, further hardware modifications and the software used for the measurement. This differs from vehicle to vehicle. As a rule of thumb for tuned engines, an increase of up to 5–10 % can be assumed.

What is at least as important is that, whether the engine has already been optimised or is to remain standard in software terms, you prevent a loss of power at high outside temperatures or even the activation of the thermal protection programmed into many control units. This allows you to rely on the full power of your engine.

Recommendation

We recommend using our HF-Series intercoolers as part of a combination of hardware and software optimisation. Reducing back pressure, thereby relieving the turbocharger, and cooling the charge air, which increases the oxygen content in the combustion chamber and reduces thermal load, results in effective performance tuning. This allows the potential of every turbocharged engine to be used efficiently.

When tuning a vehicle in hardware or software terms, charge pressure loss must not be overlooked. If the vehicle’s power is increased through chip tuning, charge pressure is also increased in 99% of cases. Using the standard intercooler causes charge pressure loss to rise exponentially. This means that the turbocharger has to work even harder, increasing its thermal load and reducing its service life; high rotational speeds also accelerate wear.
