This upgraded intercooler for the Audi S4/S5 B9 3.0 TDI is a highlight of the HF-Series range. The high-quality Bar’n’Plate core provides excellent cooling performance, delivering strong performance even under demanding conditions while remaining highly robust. The entire system is also designed for optimum flow. This means pressure loss is minimal, while the complete charge-air path was developed using CAD flow analyses. This also includes the cooler tanks, which are made from high-strength cast aluminium and equipped with our WAY FIN TECHNOLOGY.

What exactly does an upgraded intercooler do for you?

To express the precise power increase provided by an intercooler in figures, many unknown factors must be taken into account, such as factory power variation, further hardware changes and the software used during measurement. This varies from vehicle to vehicle. As a rule of thumb for engines with increased performance, an increase of up to 5–10% can be assumed.

At least equally important is the following: whether the engine has already been optimised or is to remain standard from a software perspective, the intercooler helps prevent power loss at high outside temperatures and can prevent the temperature protection stored in many ECUs from being reached. This means you can always rely on the engine delivering its full performance.

Reducing back pressure, which relieves the turbocharger, and cooling the charge air, which increases the oxygen content in the combustion chamber and reduces thermal load, results in performance tuning that efficiently uses the potential of every turbocharged engine.

When carrying out hardware or software tuning on your vehicle, the factor of boost pressure loss must not be overlooked. If vehicle performance is increased through chip tuning, boost pressure is also increased in 99% of cases. Using the standard intercooler causes boost pressure loss to rise exponentially. This means the turbocharger has to work even harder, increasing its thermal load and reducing its service life; high speeds also cause faster wear.
