HF-Series intercooler for Audi TT/TTS 8S 1.8–2.0 TFSI Euro 6

This upgraded intercooler for VAG 1.8–2.0 T(F)SI Euro 6 models in the Audi TT/TTS 8S is part of the HF-Series range. The high-quality Bar’n’Plate core provides excellent cooling performance and reliable operation even under demanding conditions. It is also highly robust, resistant to stress and less prone to heat soak than comparable cores from other manufacturers.

The entire system is designed for optimum flow. This means minimal pressure loss, while the complete charge-air path was developed using CAD flow analysis. The intercooler end tanks are made from high-strength cast aluminium and feature our WAY FIN TECHNOLOGY.

The intercooler was developed using computerised flow simulations and tested on the relevant vehicles. It mounts to the original mounting points of the OEM intercooler, so no major modifications are required. Installation can be carried out with a suitably equipped standard tool kit.

What does an upgraded intercooler provide?

It is not possible to express the exact power increase from an intercooler as a single figure, as many variables must be considered, including factory power variation, other hardware changes and the software used. The result therefore varies from vehicle to vehicle. As a rule of thumb for tuned engines, an increase of up to 5–10% may be possible.

At least equally important is the fact that, at high ambient temperatures, an upgraded intercooler helps prevent power loss or the activation of the temperature protection programmed into many control units. This allows the engine to deliver its full performance more consistently.

Recommendation

We recommend using the HF-Series intercooler together with hardware and software optimisation. Reducing back pressure relieves the turbocharger, while cooling the charge air increases the oxygen content in the combustion chamber and reduces thermal load. This allows the potential of a turbocharged engine to be used more efficiently.

When tuning a vehicle, charge pressure loss must not be overlooked. Increasing engine power through chip tuning also increases charge pressure in 99% of cases. With the standard intercooler, charge pressure loss rises exponentially, meaning that the turbocharger has to work harder. This increases its thermal load and reduces service life, while the higher rotational speeds accelerate wear. HF-Series intercoolers provide the ideal balance between cooling performance and charge pressure loss.
