This intercooler for the Cupra Formentor VZ5 is a highlight of the HF-Series range. The high-quality Bar’n’Plate core offers excellent cooling performance, delivering strong performance even under demanding conditions while remaining extremely robust. It provides high resistance and does not heat up as much as comparable cores from other manufacturers.
During our tests, with an outside air temperature of 17.5 °C, we achieved an intake air temperature of just 23 °C. Even with our extensive Stage 2 upgrade producing 457 PS, for example in the Golf 8 Clubsport/R, the temperature under full load was no more than 9.5 °C above the outside air temperature.
The entire system has also been designed for optimum flow. This means minimal pressure loss, while the complete charge-air path was developed using aerodynamically efficient CAD flow analyses. This also includes the intercooler end tanks, which are made from high-strength cast aluminium and equipped with our WAY FIN TECHNOLOGY. This consists of an additional guide fin inside the tank, ensuring even and optimum filling of the entire core.
The intercooler’s inlet and outlet diameter has also been increased to 70 mm. Combined with the reinforced SF-Hoses silicone hoses included in the kit, this provides the ideal basis for increasing engine performance.
Road use: This intercooler currently does not have a Teilegutachten parts certificate.

What does an upgraded intercooler provide?
To express the exact power increase provided by an intercooler in figures, many unknown factors have to be taken into account, such as factory power variation, other hardware modifications and the software used during testing. This varies from vehicle to vehicle. As a rule of thumb for tuned engines, an increase of up to 5–10% can be assumed.
What is at least as important is that, especially at high outside temperatures, you prevent a loss of performance or even the activation of the thermal protection stored in many engine control units. This means you can always rely on the full performance of your engine, whether it has already been optimised or remains standard in terms of software.
Recommendation
We recommend using our HF-Series intercoolers as part of a combination of hardware and software optimisation. Reducing back pressure, thereby relieving the turbocharger, and cooling the charge air, which increases the oxygen content in the combustion chamber and reduces thermal load, creates an effective performance upgrade that makes efficient use of the potential of any turbocharged engine.
When carrying out hardware or software tuning on your vehicle, charge-air pressure loss must not be overlooked. If the vehicle’s power is increased through chip tuning, the charge pressure is also increased in 99% of cases. Using the standard intercooler causes charge-air pressure loss to increase exponentially. The turbocharger must then work even harder, increasing its thermal load and reducing its service life, or causing faster wear due to high rotational speeds.
Our HF-Series intercoolers provide the perfect balance between cooling performance and charge-air pressure loss.
