Racingline DSG oil cooler for MQB DQ250 (6-speed DSG)

Looking after the engine oil is only half the story. The DSG gearbox also generates considerable heat, so effective oil temperature control is important during demanding driving or in higher-powered vehicles. The Racingline Performance DSG Oil Cooler System is a direct-fit kit designed for vehicles on the MQB platform with the 6-speed DQ250 gearbox.

Why fit a DSG gearbox oil cooler?

During demanding driving, the factory DSG oil/water cooler can quickly become overloaded. When the oil cannot dissipate the accumulated heat quickly enough, it starts to thin and break down, losing its lubricating properties. The gearbox then protects itself by reducing torque and extending shift times; in extreme cases, it may even interrupt gear selection.

If the vehicle has been remapped, is used on a racetrack, tows a trailer or is driven in a hot climate, this upgrade helps maintain the operation of the DQ250 gearbox.

How the Racingline kit works

The kit does not replace the entire factory cooling system; it complements it. The original oil/water cooler remains fitted, while an updated low-profile replacement cooler is supplied. The additional air/oil cooler with thermostatic control is mounted at the front of the vehicle, directly in the cold airflow behind the bumper.

The thermostat only opens when the oil temperature exceeds the normal operating range. The oil then flows through the cooler’s dense 10-row core, reducing the temperature by approximately 15–20 °C depending on driving style, ambient temperature and the level of engine modification. The result is more consistent shifting, better protection for the clutches and oil, and less heat transferred into the cooling system.

Installation note

Mounting holes must be drilled through the front crossmember to install the front cooler bracket. This is a simple part of the installation, but it is worth knowing in advance. The sandwich adapter on the gearbox side allows a tidy and fully reversible installation.

Compatibility

The kit is intended for vehicles on the MQB platform with the 6-speed DSG DQ250 gearbox. It fits, among others, the Golf 7, Audi S3 8V, Audi TTS, SEAT Leon Cupra, Škoda Octavia RS and other MQB vehicles equipped with the DQ250 gearbox. It is not compatible with the 7-speed DQ381 or DQ500 gearboxes.
