Racingline oil vapour management system (catch can) – 2.0 TSI EA888 Gen.3

The Racingline oil vapour management system is a complete solution for owners of the 2.0 TSI EA888 Gen.3 engine who want to keep the intake system clean and protect the engine during demanding driving. Unlike a basic catch can, this kit addresses two well-known issues of the EA888 Gen.3 platform: intake system contamination with oil vapour from the crankcase and oil displacement during heavy braking with high deceleration forces on the racetrack.

Why fit a catch can to the EA888 Gen.3 engine?

All modern turbocharged engines return crankcase gases, containing a mixture of air, oil mist and moisture, to the intake system, where they are burned again. Over time, oil residue coats the intercooler, intake hoses and intake valves. In direct-injection engines such as the 2.0 TSI, fuel does not wash the valves, so the resulting deposits can reduce airflow and affect engine performance.

The Racingline catch can is fitted between the crankcase breather system and the intake system. Internal baffles slow the flow of vapour and separate the oil and moisture, which collect at the bottom of the can instead of entering the engine. The result is cleaner intake hoses, a cleaner intercooler and cleaner charge air entering the combustion chamber.

Proven protection against oil starvation on the racetrack

The kit also includes a dedicated engine breather plate, the same component Racingline uses in its TCR race cars. During heavy braking with high deceleration forces, oil in the upper part of the engine can move away from the areas where it is needed, leaving critical components without lubrication for a short time. This is a known cause of failure in highly stressed EA888 Gen.3 engines.

The breather plate is designed to control oil movement around the camshaft cover and helps keep the oil in the correct place during prolonged braking with high deceleration forces. When using the vehicle on a racetrack, this is an important upgrade for additional engine protection.

Important notes

The catch can must be emptied and serviced regularly. The collected oil and moisture must be drained at every service interval, or more frequently if the vehicle is used for demanding driving or on a racetrack. Otherwise, system efficiency will be reduced.

Installation should be carried out by a qualified mechanic familiar with VAG engines. The hoses must be routed correctly, and all connections must be checked to ensure they are fully sealed before starting the engine.
