The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes considerable chassis flex or deformation of the body shell, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing when driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
