The vehicle’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When weight is transferred in a corner, one side of the vehicle can be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
