A car’s chassis is the part of the vehicle subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex or body deformation, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause unwanted driving characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
