The car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly pronounced due to body mass transfer during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, load transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This can result in significant chassis or body flex and twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
