The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is mainly due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, mass transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in significant chassis flex, body deformation and torsional twisting, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
