The car’s chassis is subjected to high loads during fast driving, particularly due to the transfer of the body’s weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, the load on one side of the vehicle can be up to 3 times greater than on the other. This causes pronounced twisting and bending of the chassis or body, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
