The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intensive acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to experience as much as three times more force than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
