A vehicle’s chassis is exposed to significant loads while driving, particularly due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This causes pronounced twisting and deformation of the chassis or body, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting in corners can cause undesirable driving characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
