The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident when the vehicle’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in significant bending and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
