The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is especially pronounced due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering quickly, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded with up to three times more force than the other. This creates significant loads and twisting of the chassis or body, which can cause the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
