A vehicle’s suspension is among the components subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in significant twisting and bending of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Twisting and deformation of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
