The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly true because of the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant deformation and twisting of the chassis, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
