The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during high-speed cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to a force up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant chassis flex or deformation and torsional twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flex while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
