A vehicle’s chassis is among the parts subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, hard braking or decisive acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in significant bending and twisting of the chassis, or body deformation, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
