The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When driving through a corner, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes significant deformation and twisting of the chassis, which can result in the tyres losing grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
