The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or intensive acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass through a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times greater force than the other. This can result in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
