The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of the body weight when driving quickly through corners, braking hard or accelerating sharply.
In some cases, the transfer of weight in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or bodywork, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis when driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
