The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or sudden acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass while cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This causes significant bending and twisting of the chassis or body, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Bending and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause undesirable driving characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
