A car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident when the vehicle’s body weight is transferred during fast cornering, hard braking or decisive acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex, deformation and body twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
