The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest stress during dynamic driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or hard acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This can result in significant chassis flex and body twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis flexing and twisting during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
