A car’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. During fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration, the loads are mainly affected by the transfer of the body’s weight.
In certain situations, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other. This causes significant deformation and twisting of the chassis, resulting in a loss of tyre grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause unwanted handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
