The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable when the body weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In some cases, weight transfer while cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to forces up to 3 times greater than the other. This results in significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
