A vehicle’s chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or intensive acceleration.
During cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This can result in considerable bending and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Bending and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
