The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly noticeable due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
In certain situations, the transfer of mass in a corner can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. This results in high loads on the chassis, as well as body flex and deformation, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing while driving through a corner can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
