The chassis is the part of the vehicle subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly pronounced due to the transfer of body mass during fast cornering, heavy braking or intense acceleration.
In some cases, the transfer of mass during cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. This results in significant flexing, deformation and twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis during cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
