The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during driving. This is particularly evident due to the transfer of body mass when driving quickly through corners, braking hard or accelerating sharply.
When mass is transferred through a corner, one side of the vehicle can be subjected to forces up to three times greater than the other side. This causes significant chassis flex or deformation and torsional body twisting, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and flexing when driving through corners can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
