The vehicle body is subjected to the greatest loads while driving, particularly due to the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking and acceleration.
When cornering, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to 3 times more than the other. This causes significant bending and twisting of the chassis, or deformation of the body, resulting in the tyres losing grip.
Deformation and twisting of the chassis while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
