The vehicle chassis is the part subjected to the greatest loads during dynamic driving. This is particularly noticeable when the body’s weight is transferred during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.
When driving through a corner, weight transfer can cause one side of the vehicle to be loaded up to three times more than the other. The result is significant deformation and twisting of the body, causing the tyres to lose grip.
Chassis deformation and twisting while cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics such as understeer and oversteer.
