The vehicle chassis is the part that is subjected to the greatest loads while driving. This is particularly true because of the transfer of body weight during fast cornering, heavy braking or acceleration.

In certain cases, weight transfer when cornering can cause one side of the vehicle to be subjected to up to three times more force than the other. The result is significant deformation and twisting of the chassis or body, causing the tyres to lose grip.

Deformation and twisting of the chassis when cornering can cause undesirable handling characteristics, such as understeer and oversteer.
